Privacy Policy
BackLast updated: 7/17/2026
This Privacy Policy explains how SeeMyBJJ (“SeeMyBJJ,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use SeeMyBJJ, a video replay and training platform for martial arts academies (the “Service”).
SeeMyBJJ is used by martial arts academies (“Academies”) to record, store, and replay footage of classes. In most cases the Academy is the controller of footage and student information, and SeeMyBJJ acts as a service provider (processor) that handles that data on the Academy’s behalf and under its instructions. This Policy describes our practices in both roles.
If you are a student or member, the Academy that recorded you is your primary point of contact for questions about how your footage is used, retained, and shared.
1. Information we collect
Account information. When you sign in, we collect your name, email address, and profile details provided through our authentication provider(s). If you sign in with a third-party provider such as Google, we receive basic profile information (such as your name, email address, and account identifier) as permitted by that provider and your settings. We do not receive your third-party password.
Academy and membership information. Academy name, your role (for example, administrator, instructor, or student), belt rank, class enrollment, and similar information needed to organize access.
Video footage and related media. Video recorded by cameras installed at an Academy, along with derived media such as thumbnails, storyboards, and clips. Footage may capture identifiable individuals, including their likeness and voice.
Tags and training data. Techniques, positions, class information, notes, timestamps, and other metadata created within the Service.
Usage and device information. Log data such as IP address, browser or device type, pages viewed, and actions taken, used to operate and secure the Service.
Cookies and similar technologies. We use cookies and similar technologies for authentication, session management, and to remember preferences. See Section 7.
2. How we use information
We use information to:
- Provide the Service — including capturing, storing, transcoding, delivering, tagging, searching, and clipping footage;
- Authenticate users and control access to Academy accounts;
- Operate, maintain, secure, and improve the Service;
- Communicate with you about the Service, including administrative messages and support;
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not use footage of individuals to train advertising models or for purposes unrelated to providing the Service.
3. How information is shared
Within your Academy. Footage and related data are accessible to authorized Users of the Academy according to the roles and permissions the Academy configures.
Service providers. We share information with third-party providers who help us run the Service, including:
- Authentication and identity management;
- Video hosting, encoding, and delivery;
- Cloud storage of source footage;
- Search infrastructure;
- Email delivery;
- Application hosting.
These providers process data on our behalf under contractual obligations and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.
Legal and safety. We may disclose information if required by law, to respond to legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of users, the public, or SeeMyBJJ.
Business transfers. If SeeMyBJJ is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Policy.
4. Video footage, likeness, and consent
Because the Service records identifiable individuals in a physical space, we treat footage as sensitive. The Academy operating the cameras is responsible for obtaining any consents required by law from individuals who appear in footage (or from parents/guardians of minors) and for posting notice that recording is taking place.
Depending on your jurisdiction, footage or associated data may be treated as biometric or otherwise sensitive information under laws such as [STATE/REGIONAL PRIVACY LAWS — e.g., Illinois BIPA, Texas CUBI, GDPR]. Where such laws apply, the Academy is responsible for the required notices and consents, and SeeMyBJJ will process footage only as instructed. This is an area where you should seek legal advice specific to where your Academies operate.
5. Children’s privacy
The Service is not directed to children for independent sign-up or use. However, Academies commonly run youth programs, and footage may capture minors.
Where footage of minors is recorded, the Academy must obtain verifiable consent from a parent or legal guardian before recording, storing, or sharing that footage. A parent or guardian may request access to, or deletion of, footage of their child by contacting their Academy or emailing us at info@seemybjj.com, and we will work with the Academy to honor valid requests.
6. Data retention
We retain footage and information for as long as needed to provide the Service, subject to retention settings configured by the Academy or by the applicable service plan. When footage or data is deleted — whether by an Academy administrator, at the end of a retention window, or on account termination — we remove it from active systems and purge it from backups within a commercially reasonable period.
7. Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies that are necessary to operate the Service (such as keeping you signed in and remembering your session and preferences). We do not use them for third-party advertising. You can control cookies through your browser settings, though disabling necessary cookies may prevent the Service from working.
8. Data security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information, including access controls, encryption in transit, and restricting access to authorized personnel and providers. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Your rights and choices
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the use of your personal information, or to object to certain processing. Because Academies typically control footage and membership data, please direct these requests to your Academy first; you may also contact us at info@seemybjj.com and we will assist and coordinate with the Academy as appropriate.
To manage your account information, you can update your profile within the Service or contact your Academy administrator. To revoke third-party sign-in access (such as Google), you can also manage app permissions in that provider’s account settings.
10. International users
The Service is operated from the United States, and information may be processed and stored in the United States or other countries where our providers operate. If you access the Service from outside the United States, you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States. [ADJUST IF YOU SERVE EU/UK ACADEMIES — additional transfer safeguards may be required.]
11. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will provide reasonable notice (for example, by email or a notice in the Service) and update the “Last updated” date above.
